Top 10 Favourite Movies of 2010

I’ve finally found time to create the list of my favourite movies of 2010. It’s been one of the best years in a long time for films and hopefully the list will reflect this.
My top 3 are obvious choices to many and will probably appear on most people’s top 10 lists, but they are there for a reason and that’s because they are all amazing films.

I’ve had to publish it now because I don’t think i’ll have another chance before Christmas and I wanted it up before the new year starts. The downside of this is there are still a few films left to see this year as a result of our delayed UK release dates. I hope the majority of you approve of my choices, here goes nothing…

Movie Memorabilia Convention

A few months ago I was fortunate enough to acquire a ticket to the Memorabilia show at the NEC in Birmingham. Being such a huge fan of film it may be surprising to learn that this was my first time at such an event, and I had absolutely no idea what to expect.
I made the short trip there with my brother-in-law and partner in crime Simon (aka @simonbarber on Twitter), and we hooked up with giallo aficionado Oli Carter at the train station. This was a film fans day out of the geekiest order.

I never intended to blog about the day but I wanted to show the many treasure that I managed to find.

My Top 100 Favourite Movies (By Decade)

When casting your eyes over the many films listed, please bear in mind the fact that I am only 25 years old, and still have a very long list of classic films to work my way through. It’s also worth pointing out that I have yet to see any of The Godfather films, which will explain their absence from the list. I also apologise for this bold confession, as it will no doubt shock a few of you. As long as you wonderful people keep helping me get through the list via #RandomMovie, i’m sure I will alter this list alot.

I have tried to create my list in a very similar style to Rupert’s, where the films mentioned are just the ones that I hold most dear. They will not all be cinematic triumphs.

VHS Haul (Freecycle)

On every available Sunday, I visit various car boot sales and markets around my area, gathering up as many films that I can on the worlds greatest format. I’ll usually come back from each trip with about 10-20 films, and spend no more than £3.
You can pretty much pick up a tape these days for around the 10p mark from most sensible sellers.

I told myself that I wasn’t going to buy any more for quite some time though, due to having zero space left in my Apartment. Unfortunately this all changed when I received an email the other week, informing me of some guy on Twitter who was throwing out his VHS collection to help create some space in his own house.
It didn’t take long for me to decide if I wanted them or not. The alternative was to see them tossed into the skip and then sent away to be destroyed. I don’t think I could have lived with myself had I taken up that particular option.

Reversible Sleeves

This is something that I have been meaning to discuss for quite some time now…

As a VHS lover, I love nothing more than to rummage through the odd charity shop and car boot sale looking for classic VHS tapes in their original boxes.
After each weekly haul I would have a good sort through and clean up my purchases, and every once in a while I would come across a tape (mostly ex-rental) that had an alternative cover on the reverse. To non-VHS loving people out there, this would be the equivalent of finding a crisp £50 note inside your weekly payslip.

Medusa were probably the biggest players in this reversible market, but other labels such as Guild  and CBS/FOX were also in on the act. I must own a hundred or so with double sided sleeves.
